Our Cantor

Cantor Jennifer Duretz Peled, or Cantor Jenn as she prefers to be called, began her tenure as our sh’lichat tzibbur – our representative to God in prayer – on July 1, 2016.

 She was the cantor at Congregation Keneseth Israel in Allentown, PA for five years before joining our congregation. Prior to that she was the cantor at Temple B’nai Israel in Clearwater, FL for three years. 

Cantor Jenn knew when she made her first trip to Israel during a Taglit Birthright Israel trip that she wanted to bring her love of Judaism and music together. She is an unwavering supporter of Israel and has traveled there 19 times! 

Cantor Jenn studied at Universitat Haifa in Israel where she loved living among such a diverse population of Jews, Christians, and Muslims. She studied Opera Performance at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music where she was the recipient of the Emma Lou Young Vocal Award. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Voice Performance with a concentration in Opera at the University of West Florida where she was a two time recipient of the prestigious Samuel Gittenstein Vocal Award.

During her cantorial studies, Cantor Jenn was the NFTY-STR Songleading Advisor for four years. She was the Music Educator and High Holiday Family Service Leader at Main Line Reform Temple in Wynnewood, Pa. She was the music educator and Junior Congregation leader at Congregation Adath Jeshurun in Elkins Park, Pa. She spent two summers at Camp Tawonga as Head Songleader, three summers at URJ Camp Coleman as Head Songleader, and one summer at Machaneh Ramah Yomi as Head Songleader. During her final year of school, Cantor Jenn interned at Temple B’nai Israel in Clearwater where she subsequently was appointed Cantor.

Cantor Jenn received her Cantorial Investiture in 2008 from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College.  She also received a Masters degree in Cantorial Studies and a Masters in Jewish Music from Gratz College in 2008, where she was the Abramson Fellow. She is a member of the Reform Movement’s American Conference of Cantors.

Along with her passion for music, Cantor Jenn has a love for Jewish education and creating memorable moments for our children in the religious school.

Cantor Jenn and her husband, Rabbi Matan Peled, have twin sons, Noam and Shai.
